My favorite parts of the trip would be the visits to the smaller towns in Spain. The first two towns we visited was part of a day trip from Madrid.
Visiting Segovia and Toledo in a single day can be exhausting if you are traveling on your own (the two towns are located very far away from each other). Most visitors will visit the two places on separate days. However, as we are rather pressed for time (and a mite lazy to work out the logistics), we purchased a day tour from Viator that covers the two towns in a single day trip. Toledo
Of the two towns, I really couldn't decide which I like better as they both have their charms and are vastly different. Toledo retains a very medieval Arabic feel to the town and the panoramic view of the town and be rather breathtaking.
As Toledo is atop a mountain for defense, it can be quite a climb to explore the city with its narrow and old streets.
Segovia
Segovia in contrast seems a bit of "modern" in comparison. Once in the town, the main attraction will be the huge aqueduct in town square.
Another beautiful architecture that can be found in Segovia would be the Cathedral. Unfortunately, our tour did not include the entrance fee to the cathedral.
The highlight of the all the attractions in Segovia would have to be the Alcazar. The last stop of our tour and with cost of tickets included. The Alcazar wasn't a very huge castle to roam but once you are at the bottom of the hill looking up at it perch at the top, the structure is very amazing.
Restaurante Jose Maria
Last but not least, Segovia is famous of its roast suckling pig and Jose Maria does it really well. The roast pig we had was soft and crispy. House in an old shop house at the end of the Plaza Mayor, the meal was delicious and ambience was authetic .
